The Urban Farm began in 1993 as the non profit organization Embracing Horses, a program teaching horsemanship skills and riding to inner city and urban kids.
Today the farm is located at Stapleton through a long team lease of some 20 acres and its offering has expanded to include agricultural and environmental education to more than 2500 kids annually.

Last year, more than $4300 was donated to The Urban Farm as a result of the Chicks with Sticks(tm) tournament and event organizers are optimistic this number will continue to grow so that the event can help the farm with more expenses such as riding education and 4-H agricultural projects, children's gardens, and the story book farm and black stallion literacy programs. |

As part of the event, kids from The Urban Farm help some of the competing teams with horse care during the match as well as help to run the tournament both keeping score and timing.
